Butler County Health is seeking a highly qualified Radiologic Technologist for a PRN position. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing radiographic procedures, with opportunities for cross-training in CT, Mammography, and Ultrasound for those not already certified. Flexibility and a commitment to expanding skills in additional imaging modalities is essential. 

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited radiology technology program and hold a current ARRT certification, or currently in the process of attending an accredited program with graduation in the near future. 

This position requires being on call with a response time of 30 minutes. Rotating weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Understand and comply with the requirements of the Hospital’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, The Compliance Policy, all organization-wide policies for compliance and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.

Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Hospital policy and as requested by supervisor.

  1. Performs radiographic procedures as ordered by medical staff or radiologist. Cross-train in additional imaging modalities (e.g., Mammography, Ultrasound) to enhance operational versatility. 
  2. Maintains electronic health records and utilize PACS and RIS software programs for department.
  3. Determines retakes of images due to quality of pictures.
  4. Dictation and reports will be filed according to hospital policy.
  5. Schedules exams according to hospital policy.
  6. Assists with QI studies as directed by department head.
  7. Communication of patient results to physician. 
  8. Positioning patients or equipment for imaging. Technologists may also need to lift less mobile patients.
  9. Applying and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of radiation protection and safety practices
  10. Ability to start IV’s or willing to learn
  11. Ensure that imaging equipment is in optimum operating order and inform the appropriate person when it needs repairs
  12. Perform radiographic room disinfection and ensure general cleanliness of exam areas
  13. Ability to work with the general public and provide a high standard of patient care
  14. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  15. Quality control on machines
  16. Attending department meetings
  17. Maintains current licensure by the State of Nebraska to operate radiology equipment and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and BLS certification. 
  18. Maintains and documents patient records, exams and files accurately.
  19. Ability to return to work after hours for procedures ordered by attending physician.
  20. Must be able to return to hospital for x-ray procedures at any time during a 24 hour call period within a 30 minute response time.
  21. Maintains confidentiality and assist others to keep confidentiality.
  22. Appropriate barrier protection will always be used when exposure to blood and /or body fluids is anticipated.
  23. Implements safe work practices 100% of the time to reduce the risk of occupational exposure.

I feel having a 3D mammogram was a blessing for me since it detected my Stage 1 cancer.  The technicians were very helpful as they explained how the machine worked compared to the 2D method.  A big difference is that the 3D machines moves above your head from one size to another and gives a more complete image of the breast.  The testing time also seemed shorter than the standard mammogram.
