Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a neurological condition that affects how the brain processes and interprets auditory information. Another way to think of this would be ‘dyslexia of hearing’. People with APD may have difficulty recognizing subtle differences in sounds, following spoken instructions, or understanding speech in noisy environments, despite having normal hearing. It can impact both communication and learning.
APD Evaluations
This is a 2-3 hour evaluation that can be split into 2 visits. Testing consists of information gathering, a hearing evaluation, ipad based testing, and active listening tasks in the sound booth. The evaluation assesses if APD is truly present or not, and if so, tells us which area of processing is most impacted.
APD Therapy
Therapy is based on results of the evaluation and is different for each individual. Therapy is on site for several weeks, with a re-evaluation for progress at various points of the process.
